How Domestic Building Insurance helped Vaibhav finish his dream home after a builder collapsed.
Case study
When Porter Davis Homes went into liquidation in March 2023, Vaibhav’s dream home was suddenly at risk.
At the time, Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) was managed by the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA). That responsibility has since moved to the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC).
‘It was a shock, but we were relieved to know we had Domestic Building Insurance,’ Vaibhav said. ‘A few days later, we went to a VMIA information session. They explained exactly how the insurance worked and what steps they were taking to make sure our home would be finished to the original specifications. We left feeling reassured.’
Despite managing a high volume of claims, VMIA kept Vaibhav and his family informed at every stage and clearly explained their options. VMIA arranged for Simonds to provide a quote to complete the build.
‘We were so pleased we chose Simonds,’ Vaibhav said. ‘They were fantastic to work with, professional, supportive and delivered exactly what was promised. There were no out-of-pocket costs, and we were thrilled to get the keys to our new home before Christmas.’
Outcome
- Home completed to original specifications
- No out-of-pocket costs
- Keys delivered before Christmas
- Strong collaboration between insurer and builder to deliver a positive result
