BPC reminds plumbers of drainage inspection requirements after plumber hit with maximum fine
The BPC has fined licensed plumber Jordan Maiolo more than $21,000 including costs for non-compliant drainage work at multiple suburbs across Melbourne and in Geelong.

The 38-year-old, of Specialised Plumbing and Drainage, booked mandatory inspections for the work but either failed to turn up to site and didn’t have the drains ready for inspection at the allocated time.
Maiolo also permitted or directed people to carry out plumbing works which did not comply with the plumbing laws at 7 of the 8 sites.
The work was carried out over a four-year period in Port Melbourne, Lilydale, Clyde, Fraser Rise, Wyndham Vale, Wollert, and Armstrong Creek.
In Port Melbourne, Maiolo also failed to provide a compliance certificate within the required 5 days of completing plumbing work.
In Clyde North, he also failed to provide the relevant water authority, South East Water, with a plan of the sanitary drain after completing the work and signing the certificate.
The BPC conducts random below-ground sanitary drainage inspections of plumbing work to ensure work complies with the relevant standards, regulations and local laws.
It is mandatory to book a BPC drainage inspection for below-ground sanitary drains and plumbers must always wait 30 minutes after the booking time to pass before backfilling.
If a BPC inspector does not attend the site within 30 minutes from the nominated inspection time, the plumber is permitted to backfill the drain.
A compliance certificate certifies that plumbing work complies with prescribed standards and can only be issued by a licensed plumber.
A compliance certificate must be provided to consumers for all plumbing jobs worth $750 or more within 5 days of completing the work.
