Registration certificate, ID and Digital Accreditation

Registration certificate and practitioner ID card

After the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) grants your application for registration or your registration renewal, you will be issued a new building practitioner certificate and a new BPC ID card.

The ID card lists the type of work you are eligible to do. You should always carry your ID card when working, unless you are using Digital Accreditation.

There is a fee to replace your registration certificate and identification card, so please look after them.

Digital accreditation

Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) has partnered with Service Victoria to offer Digital Accreditation for registered building practitioners.

BPC registered building practitioners can add their Digital Accreditation, a digital version of their physical card into the Service Victoria mobile wallet and have their card details verified via QR code.

We have introduced Digital Accreditation to enable faster, more effective regulatory practices. Some of the benefits of a Digital Accreditation are:

  • A more convenient way for practitioners to verify their licence or registration, without the need for a physical card.
  • Instant access to Digital Accreditation as soon as a licence or registration is granted. This allows practitioners to start working immediately, without needing to wait for a physical card to be mailed.
  • Increased accuracy and security that gives consumers the confidence a Digital Accreditation is current and accurate.
  • Instant updates to reflect any changes to practitioner details, licences or registrations. Digital Accreditations can also be updated to display a ‘suspended’, ‘cancelled’ or ‘expired’ status.
  • No risk of damage or loss compared to physical cards.

Read the Digital Accreditation practitioner user guide, which provides step-by-step guidance on how you can register for a Digital Accreditation with Service Victoria and how a consumer can check its validity.

The registration process should take no longer than five minutes.
