Registration fees

How our fees work

We updated our building practitioner registration fees on 2 May 2022.

The new fee structure more fairly reflects regulatory costs, registration categories and business structures. Fees vary by the type and number of registrations held, with higher fees for corporate practitioners to reflect the added benefits of operating as a company.

These changes support consumer protection, industry integrity, free practitioner education, and continued improvements to digital services that make registration and renewal easier.

Annual fees and insurance

Building practitioners must pay an annual fee and provide proof that they hold the required insurance to be able to continue carrying out building work in Victoria.

Annual fees

We will send you a reminder by email six weeks before the due date of your annual fee. To pay your annual fee:

  • Log in to BPC and pay your fees on the Registration and Licensing page.

Insurance

Insurance requirements for domestic builders have changed from 1 July 2026 due to amendments to the Building Act 1993.

See the What This Means for Existing Builders to understand how this change impacts you.

All other building practitioners

All building practitioners, except for project manager (domestic) and commercial builders, are required to provide updated insurance annually or prior to their insurance expiry.

We will send you a reminder by email six weeks before you are required to provide your updated proof that you continue to be covered by the required insurance.

To provide updated proof of insurance:

  • Log in to BPC and upload your insurance documents on the Manage insurance page.

For more information about insurance requirements, see our Insurance for builders.

If you fail to pay your annual fee or provide evidence that you are covered by the required insurance by the due date, the BPC must suspend your registration.
