Domestic Building Insurance for contracts signed before 1 July 2026

Home Warranty has replaced Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) for eligible domestic building work.

For major domestic building contracts entered on or after 1 July 2026, builders must purchase Home Warranty.

However, for insurance applications relating to contracts signed by all parties before 1 July 2026, builders must purchase DBI.

What happens next?

If you enter a contract date for an application in your BuildVic portal that is dated 30 June 2026 or earlier, your application will be referred to us and we will be in touch to request additional information.

To help us review your application, please upload the following documentation as part of your application:

  • For contracts entered into on or after 1 June to 30 June 2026, builders will need to provide an extract of the major domestic building contract that was signed by both parties during June 2026.
  • For contracts entered prior to 1 June 2026 builders will be required to provide a copy of the entire major domestic building contract and signed statutory declaration. Download the BPC statutory declaration template to use for this purpose.

Once your application is received, the BPC Insurance Builder Assessment Team may contact you for further information, otherwise we will complete the review of your application and send it to your BuildVic cart for payment.

On successful payment, a Certificate of Insurance and Tax Invoice will be created and available for download. The Homeowner Welcome pack will be sent separately to Homeowner by the BPC Insurance Builder Assessment Team.
