Disputes about domestic building work

BPC provides a free and impartial dispute resolution service for eligible domestic building disputes.

The service helps owners, builders and other building practitioners try to resolve disputes without the cost or delay of going to court.

Before you apply, you must have taken reasonable steps to resolve the dispute directly with the other party.

BPC’s Dispute Resolution Officers may facilitate conciliation to help the parties discuss the issues and work towards an agreed outcome.

Applications involving health, safety or financial hardship may be prioritised.

If the dispute is not resolved through conciliation, BPC may issue a binding dispute resolution order or a certificate that allows the matter to progress to VCAT.
