Apply to be an Owner-builder

Once you've completed your eLearning assessment and construction induction training (if required) and assembled your documentation, you are ready to begin your application.

If the required evidence is not submitted with your application, your application may be refused.

Applying via the VBA360 portal

The fastest and easiest way for you to submit, manage and track your application to be an owner-builder is online through the VBA360 portal. The portal enables real-time processing and 24/7 managing and tracking of your owner-builder application.

It provides access to a number of our services online, including:

• Owner-builders can submit, manage and track their applications online.
• Licenced plumbing practitioners can purchase and manage all compliance certificates online, including booking or cancelling a below-ground drain inspection.
• Consumers can find the right help if they have a complaint about building or plumbing practitioners.

You will need a valid credit or debit card to pay your application fee.

What happens after you apply

It will take approximately 45 business days to process an application for a certificate of consent if all the required information is provided. We will contact you via email if further information is required.

Different stages of the application process include:

1. Allocation: Your application has been received and is waiting to be assessed.
2. Assessment: Your application is being assessed by an owner-builder officer.
3. Recommendation: The owner-builder officer has finished assessing your application and made their recommendation to the owner-builder manager.
4. Decision: Your application is with the owner-builder manager and is awaiting final review. You will have a response soon.
